Knights beat Squires in Basketball Game!

On Saturday, May 21, the Circle of My Brother’s Keeper took on “The New Tricks,” a team of Knights from the Msgr. Fitzgerald Council who served up a serious game of basketball for a day of athletic glory. A respectable crowd of friends, family members, and curiosity-seekers turned out for the game. It was a close game, with the Squires leading 18-12 at the end of the first quarter. Just before the half, the Knights took the lead, and maintained it for the remainder of the game. The final score was 36-34. Many thanks to all Squires, Knights, friends and families for a great game and a successful fundraiser for the Circle!

Upcoming Documentary on Father Michael McGivney

The CT Public Broadcasting Network is airing a 1 hour docudrama on Fr. Michael McGivney, who founded the Knights of Columbus at St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, CT back in 1881. This one-hour special recalls the struggles of the Irish Catholics in New Haven, and Fr. McGivney’s vision to minister to them, especially by providing life insurance to support orphans and widows. The special includes archival footage of his life and ministry, which should be of especial interest to modern-day Knights. It is being billed as “The Fascinating True Story of a Connecticut Priest Who Changed History,” and will premiere on Thursday, April 21, at 9 pm on CPTV.

I Am My Brother’s Keeper

Dear Brother Knights,

Please enjoy the below footage from the 128th Supreme Convention. It contains, among other things, a good review of the previous year for the Knights of Columbus. Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson reminds us of all that we can accomplish when we work together in Unity, Charity, and Fraternity. Vivat Jesu!

Also, see if you can spot our brother Knight from Council #14014 receiving Holy Communion at 16:42 minutes in!

Free Throw Championship

Below is a message from Brother Knight John Niski of Bernardo Council regarding Saturday’s free throw championship event.

Brother Knights,

Thanks to those Brothers from Councils #1350 & #14014 who came out to help on Saturday at the annual Free Throw Championship. It was a great event and a fun time was had by all.

Special Thanks to the Columbian Squires who helped with every aspect of the day.  Their involvement was a blessing.  We are fortunate to have the future of the Brotherhood in these boys.
